Avoid the Rush to Get Rich

Sep 16, 2019

Proverbs 23:4 warns us: “Labor not to be rich: cease from your own wisdom.” We have seen time and time again that when poor people hit the lottery those millions of dollars literally ruin their lives. Within a few years they lose all of that money and fall right back into poverty. This happens because poor people know nothing about money. No one has ever told you that every physical entity has a spiritual property that causes it to behave in a certain way. Money has a spiritual property that will ruin you if you get a lot of it quickly and don’t grow into it.

The 1% did not reach that level of wealth overnight. Their money grew over time like apples grow on a tree. The average 1% person didn’t reach the million dollar level until they are between the ages of 35-39. Between the ages of 18-23 they make on average $20,000, 24-29 it’s $80,000, 30-34 it’s $400,000, and between 35-39 it’s $1,250,000. In the 65+ age range the 1% make on average $11,750,000 per year. With age their level of wealth increases because money grows like apple trees.

Every apple has within it an average of 6-8 seeds. Each seed has the potential to produce an apple tree. If you keep planting those seeds year after year, you will get more apples, more seeds, and more trees. Every dollar has the potential to make another dollar. If you keep investing your dollars year after year, you will get more dollars and your level of wealth will increase over time. Warren Buffet began investing at age 11 and is now reportedly worth $73 Billion at the age of 65+. However, he says that he didn’t make his first Billion dollars until he was age 56. As you can see his wealth grew exponentially between ages 56-70 as he gained more and more knowledge about money.

People who rush to get rich quick give money to get rich quick scammers and end up making their selves poorer in the process. When scammers claim they have a plan to make a million dollars for you it is actually a scheme to make a million dollars for them. Trump University is a prime example of what get rich quick scammers do. They promise you can make millions from their plan but in the end they just take your money. They sell you hope that you can get rich quickly but they leave you deeper in poverty. Trump University was sued and had to pay a settlement of over $25 Million.

You would think that money was returned to the people who got scammed out of it but nope. The lawyers took most of it and the victims received little or nothing. In the end, get rich quick scammers and those who got scammed both fall back into poverty.

“He that oppress the poor to increase his riches, and he that give to the rich, shall surely come to want (Proverbs 22:16).”
